The Bridge School is excited to announce the AAC-CVI Framework, adapted from work at Penn State University.

Much of Science involves students learning to describe, discuss and illustrate their observations of the natural world. The language for Science focuses on descriptive discourse.  Using consistent descriptive language, such as salient features, as a part of CVI intervention supports all students communicating what they observe.

A basic chemistry experiment with a jar containing water, oil and soap is presented in front of a light box. This presentation allows Jackie to more clearly see what is meant when liquids mix and separate. When it’s time to record her observations, she indicates her comprehension by agreeing and or disagreeing with which liquids mix or separate.

Information for Science in elementary school is presented through pictures and texts. To provide practice accessing conventional literacy for students with CVI, books are on the computers adapted using Power Point, Glow Writing and simplified photos.
